First Impression

First Impression is a performance piece that explores the identity of the artist and his wife. The act of giving a calling card is a normal activity of society that the artist has elevated to an art form. Making Life as Art. The idea of stereotyping oneself through a 3.5” x 2” card is unthinkable. Once distributed, conversation flows, arguments arise, breaking the ice between two strangers.

There are two printed calling cards, one for the artist and one for his wife, Ensze. The artist’s card says, “The Provider” and
his wife’s, “The Housewife.” She has been always asked her profession and since her new role is a housewife, would someone stereotype her? What kind of imagery and association would this role bring? Instead of shying away, let this card be a testament to her role. Is this a supporting role? Is this title not important? Would you ignore her? Could this role be reversed between the couple?
