The Residue of an Omnivore

“All that remains of an event in general history is the account of it in documents or tradition; but in art, the work of art itself is the event” —Bernard Berenson. Based on the idea that art itself happens and the residue can be captured, I purposely placed a pristine white cotton tablecloth on a dining table. This acts as a sponge and absorbs all the spills and traces of the activity of art making. The pristine white tablecloth makes a good statement of our cultural eating ritual, contrasting high society with the masses. This intervention can be a parasite performance to other eating or cooking events that are going on at the show, working with other events.

This process driven piece will be titled The Residue of an Omnivore’s Dilemma, inspired by Michael Pollan’s book,
The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals.
